3. “Achieved Story” ”News Times” Barton Grover Howe. 16 Aug 2006.http://www.newportnewstimes.com/articles/2006/08/16/news/news01.txt

I looked at one blog and two news about “Mona Lisa”, the painting that was painted by one of the most famous artist, Leonardo Da Vinci. The first, I found Art News Blogs where have blogs that are all related to some art works. There were so many blogs talks about Leonardo Da Vinci, but I chose the one which title seemed the most interesting. However, it wasn’t really interesting. It was written by some woman who loves art. And she tells about the better way to enjoy “Mona Lisa” than going to the Louvre and see the real “Mona Lisa”. She says it is better to see the copy of “Mona Lisa” at the souvenir shop at the Louvre which idea is so stupid. I thought this Art News Blogs that is supported by many famous companies is reliable, but I didn’t know if it really is after I read the blog. Also, I was surprised when I found that it was updated almost four years ago. So, I decided to look for more interesting news instead of blogs. Then I found BBC News which has very interesting information about “Mona Lisa”. It was about the model of “Mona Lisa”’s smile. A professor from Harvard University shares his theory about the model’s smile. He says that her smiles can be seen best by peripheral vision. This news was interesting and reliable because it has the result of his experiment on her smile by the very smart person from Harvard University. The next news I chose was about infamous artist’s art work on grass which looks like a huge version of a painting, “Mona Lisa”. There was much information about why and how the artist made it. I was surprised when I opened the news and saw the picture of a huge painting of “Mona Lisa” because I thought it was about the real “Mona Lisa” at the Louvre. However, it was very interesting news for me who love the “Mona Lisa” to why and know how he likes it. I think it is a reliable source because it is local news that actually had clear information about the artist and the art work.

I think I could learn a lot about internet, blog and news by doing this home work, and I found the internet more interesting to explore than before. It doesn’t only give me knowledge about the topic but also very useful trivia that is fascinating to know.

3. http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventors/davinci.htm

These three articles about Leonardo da Vinci are very trustworthy that all are published by companies and backed by well known companies.

The first article that is from Artctclopedia provides “references to sites on the World Wide Web where artists’ works can be viewed online”. Actually, in this site, it briefly explains about Leonardo da Vinci. But, it also provides many other sites where you can get almost all information about him.

The second article is from Imaginova. It has useful and interesting information which were shown on other reliable sites. It only gives a short description of Leonardo da Vinci’s ten art works or inventions. It was interesting to read, but it is just for an entertainment and not for a research.

The third article is from Idea Finder which has the most detailed information. It has Leonardo da Vinci’s biography and also it describes what is so great about him by using descriptions of his famous art works. It is used a lot by students for their works and researches. It is developed and maintained by the Internet consulting company, so it is really reliable.

The Search Engines I chose was Open Directoly Project. It is maintained by a vast and global community of volunteer editors. So, anyone can edit, but it is assumed stewardship by Netscape that many editors started to trust Open Directly and indexed many URLs. By now, it has become to the largest World Wide Web. I thinkit is helpful to find some specific site because it has a long list of groups that is in a hierachy. Ther original divsions were for Adult, Arts, Business, Computers, Games, Health, Home, News and etc. Then, there are alos second and lower categories. Furthermore, it is suprising that this site can be shown in 74 languages. I think those many categories it has are useful that I only can look get sites that I need. However, I didn’t really like the open Directory because I found it so much easier typing in what I am searching for than going through all catefories. I personally like to use Google or yahoo which is simple, easy and fast to use.

These articles are all about my favorite artist, Leonardo da Vinci.

The first article which is from Wikipedia has a simply explained also detailed biography of Leonardo da Vinci. It has much information about his private life and life as an artist, relationship with other artists, artists who was influenced by his art work and so on. I only identified him as a great artist and scientist, so it was suprising to know that he was musician also conceived a helicopter as well. I like Wikipedia because it gives a lot of detailed information with short and simple sentences.

The second article was from Britannica Online. It is like his short biography. It dosn’t tell much about why he is famous but it informs what his life was like. It is not something you want to read if you know his general information because what it says here is that he was born in a rich family, became an artist, worked for the Medici family and died lonelily. It doesn’t give you his amazing art work or knowledge still it is helpful and good enough to get his general information.

The third article is from Museum of Science that I liked the most. It shows about what kind of life he had, why he is interested in science, also it has some pictures of his paintings and description of them. I would use this article for my research paper for Art History class.

It was interesting to read three articles about Leonardo da Vinci because they all seems to have similar information but they don’t. Each article use different words explaining about him and all articles focuses on different things such as his life, paintings or his interets.

1. The first article I read was “What to Do With Wikipedia”. This article discusses both negative and positive parts of Wikipedia and shows how small and ignorable those are. Wikipedia may not be the best choise for work cite, still it has many great articles that is helpful for getting some general information of research topic and etc.The author writes that Wikipedia is not only for getting out some information but also it is also a tool to improve information literacy.

2. The second article I read was “The Charms of Wikipedia”. This article discusses mainly about disadvantages of Wikipedia and interesting about Wikipedia. The author shows what is great and curious about Wikipedia by givings some problems it has and the way to solve them. Wikipedia is so great because everyone can edit, still it usually gives us a perfect article. The reference of Wikipedia is for “exciting, deleting, restricting information rather than letting it sit there and grow”.

3. Wikipedia has so many information about my topic “skiing”. It tells me what kind of sports skiing is, history of it, equipment we need and even about ski videos and movies. This article is edit by many people and it doesn’t give me editors’ name. But I can see how trustable this articles is by checking its’ references. It has more information than I expected.

4. Wikipedia is trustable and useful source. Although it can be edited by anyone, it usually has a perfect information which are edited by professors and people who are certain about the topic. Personally, I love Wikipedia because it is fast and detailed, also it haven’t given me any wrong information yet.

I don’t think any of the stories are true.

First, the story of the bandit is a lie because in his story, the wife says that she will follow the one who wins in a fight. But, in old time, Japanese women’s dream was to get marry with a rich man for a better life. And no one choose to live with a poor man espaecially like the bandit. Also, the wife and the husband who dresses up really nice must be from an upper class. And women from an upper class like her never try to let her husband to fight with the bandit because those women were not allowed to say anything about man’s battle.

Next, the wife is also telling a lie. It is a shame to be deceived by the bandit, but people in that time didn’t commit suicide with that small thing. Also, if she really wants to commit suicide, she should cut her stomach like samurai does. But she says that she tried to drown herself which is very strange and unusual way to commit suicide at that time.

Also, the husband’s story is false as well. He says that his wife asks the bandit to kill him. Although, she hates the husband, and wishes him to be dead, she, a rich and well educated woman won’t asks the bandit to kill him but maybe to someone she knows and can trust.

Finally the witness’s story is obviously a lie. If he really saw when the husband was killed, he won’t get confused about how the husband is killed. But he says that he is confused in the opening of the movie.

I usually use books or internet News Services to get sources for my research papers because I think that is the most detailed and easiest way to get an information. But, after I read the timeline, I was very surprised how Journals or Encyclopedia takes much more time until it is published than Internet Services or books. Also, it was very interesting to compare how long every resources such as radio, newspaper, magazines, journals, books and handbook take to be published.

Actually, when a huge earthquake happened in my hometown, Niigata, Japan, I checked T.V., radio and newspaper every day. A few weeks after, I began to see magazines or journals about that at every convenience store. Then, maybe after a two years, I read the book about the earthquake for my English class. All sources are truth and interesting, but putting a different kinds of sources and comparing them give us cleare and more detailed information.

Yesterday, in my history class, Dr. Desilets told us a very interesting story about a life in Cocomo Indiana. Around 1970′s , she moved to Cocomo with her family. They liked the city and neighbours for a first few days. But soon, they started to be scared of people, community and everything there. One day, Dr. Desilets were asked to come to the church on Sunday. But the church was protestant and she is Catholic, so she refused to go. Since then, everyone started ignore her. Then, she started to know the strangeness of the city and people. Every Thursday and Sunday, the city was in silence. It is because on Thursday, all restraunts and shops were closed because there was a meeting at church on every Thursday. And on Sunday, everyone went to the church. More strange thing, there were only one restraunt and theater in the city. And only family movies were shown at the theater. One time, some people tried to build another restraunt and theater, but somehow these were set on fire. Moreover, those strange people always dressed up so nicely when they went to watch basketball or baseball games. Her family wanted to move out from the city as soon as possible, but it was very difficult to change the job for her husband. So they stayed there for three years which she says “the terrible years we ever had”.

I was very suprised that there was such an crazy and weird city in Indiana where two my best friends live now.
